The Arts

The Arts come from a desire to be expressive. Students benefit from an appreciation of the Arts, an awareness of their aesthetic environment, increased communication skills and development of technical skills in utilizing different technologies and media. Employers are increasingly aware of the value of personnel with an Arts skills set, who can bring innovation and creativity to the workplace.

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts program encourages the development of both fine arts and applied arts learning in all students.

• Foundation in drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture
• Open and Workplace courses that focus on applied/commercial art and transferrable skills
• Art history preparation appropriate for post-secondary art or general humanities programs
• All courses are well rounded in critical analysis, theoretical study of the elements and principles of composition and hands on production of art objects

Music

The Music program allows everyone to share the love of music. Students of any experience level will be given the opportunity to have fun creating music.

• Grade 9 students use keyboard, guitar, bass and drums to learn basic performance skills
• After Grade 9, students can continue to study keyboard, guitar, bass, drums or vocals in solo and/or ensemble settings.
• Performance, foundations, composition, listening, history and analysis components of our courses allow students to develop their creativity
• Students are also given the opportunity to develop recording techniques using our recording studio
