Regardless of your post-secondary destination, an ability to think mathematically is an asset for employment and everyday living.
The Grade 9 and 10 mathematics curriculum is designed to foster the development of the knowledge and skills students need to succeed in their subsequent mathematics courses, which will prepare them for the postsecondary destinations of their choosing.
The MV Mathematics department recognizes the importance of every pathway: Academic, Applied or Workplace. However, we encourage students to consider pursuing an academic pathway in grade 9 and 10 to increase opportunity in the senior grades.
Carefully choosing your pathway in Mathematics is important and can be complex (See the Mathematics flowchart in the course calendar). MAKE WORDS ?COURSE CALENDER? a LINK When starting grade 9, we recommend you consult your grade 8 teacher as well as our guidance counsellor. For senior courses, it is advisable to consult with your junior math teachers as well as our guidance counsellor.
All students will need a scientific calculator for lessons and evaluations. Calculators on cell phones or other devices are not permitted in any evaluations.
